Coffee and Energy Drinks: The Battle to Keep You Awake

Coffee's high caffeine content will likely have provided you an energy boost. It's possible to grab a cup or energy drink before you go to bed to get your start of your day. While both offer a decent amount of caffeine, you'll find the black variety superior because it doesn't contain refined sugars or preservatives that are commonly found in energy drinks.

We have put together an extensive list of the most compelling reasons to drink coffee over energy drinks in case you're uncertain.

The Caffeine Quantity is about the same

It's possible that you're worried that coffee isn't as strong like canned coffee. Energy drinks may contain between 80 and 200 mg caffeine while 8oz drip coffee has 110-150 mg. It's not the same caffeine from a cup coffee unless you consume a massive Red Bull.

Coffee is even more delicious

Let's be honest: there isn't a single energy drink which tastes like a strange fruit punch. This is why they come with names like "Unleaded" and " Assault" You're basically waging war against your taste buds when you start drinking this drink.

Aside from the caffeine, energy drinks usually have a ton of sugar, which won't help you in the long run once the energy wears off, you'll just crash again. Coffee, on the other hand is a better choice for long-lasting energy levels, and you don't have to add to your calorie count throughout the day whenever you consume it.

Energy drinks, even though they are "sugar-free", contain artificial sweeteners that should be avoided. But you can still have your coffee sweet and low-calorie: try all-natural stevia instead of sugar, and replace the cream with almond milk which comes in lots of tasty flavors. This is a big blow to those who drink energy drinks on the coffee vs.energy drinks debate. Round one has already been won and energy drinks have taken the lead!

Caffeine is the major ingredient in coffee's ability to boost energy levels. After drinking coffee, the stimulant gets absorption into your bloodstream. The caffeine then travels into the brain. The brain uses caffeine to block the inhibitory neurotransmitter Adenosine. This results in an increase in other neurotransmitters like dopamine, norepinephrine, and so on. This can increase the firing rate of neurons.

Human studies show that coffee improves different aspects of brain functioning, such as mood, memory, and reaction time.

Although it is widely believed that caffeine is the primary reason for many of these wonderful benefits, reality is quite different.
